Some Optimistic Movies

Singing in the Rain

Vin Scully said, “If I had to be stranded on a desert island and I was allowed to take one movie, it would be ‘Singin’ in the Rain,’ because, I would hope the whole world would watch that, because it’s so charming, so heartwarming, so optimistic.  You can’t watch ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ without singing along, humming along, watching Gene Kelly dance on the edge of the gutter and splash in the water … I think that’s what people should do, try to find the happiest movie they can.”

Sing Street

Holly Mosley recommends Sing Street.  "Set in 80s-era Dublin, this indie movie follows a teenage boy who decides to start a band in a bid to impress a girl, after being moved from an expensive private school to a state school. It's a coming-of-age tale with a fantastic soundtrack, and an infectious optimism that is exactly what's needed right now."

Optimist View – Movie Review: Honeyland

While the challenges Hatidze Muratova faces are sometimes difficult to watch as a viewer, the storyline reinforces the importance of commitment to what one knows is right and strength in the face of adversity and loneliness. The real legacy of the film is not how to make honey, but the value of resilience and a buoyant spirit.
